The Process Control Engineer at our Rome, Georgia Linerboard Mill improves process control functions within the mill in an assigned mill area.

The Process Control Engineer will cross-train

in other mill areas and will work weekend / night duty as required, and take weekend call duty for process control. The Process Control Engineer reports to the Process Control Manager.

Responsibilities include :

Manage 3-4 distributed control systems deployed in one of four manufacturing business units Finished Products, Pulp Mill, Power Plant or Chemical / Evaporation.

Control system management responsibilities include control strategy optimization, development of process unit startup and shut down sequences, enhancement of operator interfaces, system security administration and disaster recovery preparations.

  • Integrate with the production and Instrument / Electrical maintenance teams in order to contribute to and / or lead efforts to troubleshoot process variability upsets, field device failures and control system hardware failures.
  • Provide control engineering services to capital project teams in the development and implementation of maintenance, cost reduction and regulatory projects with scopes that include new control systems and or additions to existing control systems.
  • Plan and implement migrations to supported versions of the control system operating software environment. Plan and initiate capital projects to upgrade obsolete distributed control system station, server, network and controller hardware.
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance of process control systems within the designated area
  • Process optimization through development of new control strategies, and building layers of defense with existing controls and HMI’s.
  • Leadership, including safety, workforce engagement, diversity, staff development, and labor relations.
  • Environmental, health and safety, including company policy, state and federal regulations.

    Experience :

    3 + years Process Control / Process Engineering experience.

    Experience in at least one of the following control systems REQUIRED : Honeywell TDC3000, Honeywell Experian, Bailey, ABB, Rockwell Control Logix.

    Education :

    BS in related Engineering Discipline or Equivalent Experience. A minimum of 3 years of experience implementing and optimizing distributed control systems (DCS) in an industrial manufacturing facility is required.

    Experience implementing DCS projects in a paper mill is a plus.
