OVERVIEW :

The position is responsible for collecting, reviewing and analyzing payroll information to effectively administer voluntary and involuntary deductions from pay, such as child support, federal / state tax levies, and other general deductions.

The position works collaboratively with multiple departments, including Payroll, Human Resources, and Accounts Payable ensure timely collection and payment of assigned deductions.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Reviews garnishment language to determine the scope, jurisdiction, applicability and timeframe of the garnishment and ensure correct and timely processing.
  • Logs and records all garnishment orders and subsequent details into the payroll system.
  • Processes orders within defined quality standards. Demonstrates high level of accuracy to mitigate risk, liability and exposure.
  • Setup vendors appropriately in compliance garnishment orders and other deduction requests.
  • Ensures all garnishment payments are accurate and in compliance with withholding orders and the laws.
  • Responsible for ensuring ACH files are created, approved and transmitted timely to the bank.
  • Researches and responds to inquiries from employees, courts, state and federal agencies and others regarding assigned general deductions.
  • Assists as needed to ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of garnishment accounts.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality of information in all aspects of duties.
  • Research, process, and respond to inquiries received from employees, courts, state and federal agencies regarding garnishments and levies.
  • Collects department mail and sorts appropriately.
  • Enters general deductions on employee master files and remit timely payments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • REQUIREMENTS :

    High school diploma or equivalent plus some formal training

    Six (6) hours credit in accounting principles preferred

    A minimum of 3-4 years of previous garnishment processing experience with garnishment law knowledge, preferably high volume payroll

    Working knowledge of garnishment o U.S. garnishment regulations

    Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel

    Working knowledge of payroll processing and payroll tax laws

    Familiarity with payroll software, PeopleSoft knowledge preferred.

    Knowledge of basic accounting concepts

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Excellent and demonstrated attention to detail

    Must demonstrate strong analytical and logical reasoning skills for problem solving

    Strong customer service skills

    Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task at a fast past hands-on environment
