Occupational Summary

This position is newly created and will serve as the operational leader for the Duke Cancer Institute’s Clinical Research Office (CRO) IT applications, including Clinical Trial Management and Financial systems.

This leader will be responsible for the development and implementation of the DCI technology roadmap, technology portfolio, superuser engagement, training, reporting, and governance.

Work Preformed

Portfolio Management 25% Effort

Manage the development and implementation of the DCI technology roadmap and portfolio. The portfolio manages CRO applications across the IT lifecycle and includes cost, implementation requirements, resourcing need, project phasing, and reduction of redundant systems.

Align the DCI portfolio with DCI strategy and research programs within the CRO.

Key leader orchestrating coordinating and portfolio implementation across the Duke School of Medicine, including the Duke Office of Clinical Research (DOCR) and the Office of Research Informatics (ORI).

Represent DCI, its data needs, negotiations for products, at the local, national and international level.

CRO Data Governance and Reporting 25% Effort

Oversee and execute a data governance strategy for CRO applications and functions as the primary data steward. This includes : mapping data flow, assigning data roles across the CRO, and assuring data liquidity.

Developing and ensuring all stakeholder data requirements including NCI, are submitted as requested and on time.

Assure best practices for metadata management, reporting, and reusability of data.

Manage the implementation and integration of new and existing data access applications for CRO reporting and visualization.

CRO Operations 25% Effort

Responsible for the operationalization of new and existing systems, including training and workflow.

Responsible for all CRO super users and end-user engagement across the CRO. Superusers will have an indirect reporting line to the ADIT.

Oversees process improvements and workflow optimization for utilization of all CTMS systems using Lean and Six Sigma best practices.

Leadership 25% Effort

Form and supervise training and reporting team for CRO applications. Create a team culture that fosters open communication, motivates staff, and encourages creativity.

Seek out, listen to, accept and act on feedback. Establish regular communication methods and meetings with staff; collectively and individually.

Be available to staff on a routine basis to provide leadership and mentoring.

  • Provide staff with clear measurable goals, monitor performance and quality of work. Assign staff duties and responsibilities;
  • cross-train and reassign as needed. Foster and encourage the professional development of staff. Oversee staff training and certifications to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures SOPs , regulations and processes.

    Serve as an expert resource for colleagues and teammates. Support colleagues in their project work; encourage completion.

    And other work as assigned.

    Qualifications Required At This Level

    Education / Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
  • Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of operational experience in IT project management
  • Must have a technology background (preferable in IT project management and / or software development)
  • Experience in research and oncology CTMS systems required
  • Experience in Lean / Six Sigma process improvements required
  • Skills
