This position is responsible for providing reference, instruction and circulation services to students, faculty and staff.
Provides face-to-face and electronic reference services for faculty, staff, students, and the general public, including some evening and weekend hours;
maintains quality public relations, advising patrons of library programs, procedures, and policies.
Participates in the design, implementation, maintenance, and assessment of library instruction for the college, including, but not limited to, delivering presentations in classroom settings, demonstrating the use of library sources and techniques, library tours, and workshops.
Develops and produces research guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials in a variety of formats.
Collaborates with faculty on assignments and integration of information literacy into the college curriculum.
Performs circulation desk duties; checks materials in and out; collects library fines and other fees.
Assists with collection development and the preparation of library reports.
Performs basic cataloging and copy-cataloging of materials, updating existing records.
Serves on committees and task forces within the EGSC Library, EGSC campus, and Library Associations.
Maintains membership with appropriate Professional Associations.
Performs other tasks and related duties as assigned by the Library Director.

The Library Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines include EGSC Library policies and procedures, American Library Association standards and guidelines, and college policies and procedures.
These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
Complexity / Scope of Work
The work consists of varied library-related duties. Work at this level involves a variety of highly specialized tasks with many details to monitor and manage as well as multi-
tasking. While guidelines are available, the librarian must rely on advanced education and training, experience, and specialized research skills to maintain a high level of quality service to patrons.
The librarian has constant contact with library patrons in person, by email, by telephone, and via chat.
Work may be performed in public service areas that are busy, sometimes noisy, and with frequent interruptions.
The purpose of this position is to provide library services to students, faculty, staff and other library patrons. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of library operations.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, other library professionals, vendors, and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons.
The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
The employee must be able to walk, sit, stoop, reach, stand, talk, and listen. The employee must also be able to assist patrons by retrieving library materials from the stacks quickly and easily.
The work is typically performed in the library.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility
This position has direct supervision over Library Associate (1), and the Library Assistant (1) in the Library Director’s absence.
The position may supervise assigned part-time student workers.
MLS from an ALA-accredited institution.
One year of related experience working in an academic library.
