Office Manager

The Arizona Republic / , part of the USA TODAY NETWORK , is seeking an Office Manager to support the Regional Editor in ensuring the optimal effectiveness of the Arizona Republic newsroom as needed, and contribute to the management of all functions related to the office and its many stakeholders, internally and externally.

This is a critical position that represents the Phoenix site to the public and serves as a member of the local and regional team.

The ideal individual thrives in a fast-paced complex environment requiring creativity and initiative and is self-motivated and self-directed.

Responsibilities :

  • Supervises and oversees a team of customer service and news assistants, assigning and monitor their work.
  • Coordinates efforts, trains, and provides guidance for assigned staff.
  • Ensures support staff complies with company and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Performs executive administrative functions of a responsible and highly confidential nature, assisting with various newsroom budgeting / expense functions.
  • Oversees and monitors projects and tasks to completion.
  • Identifies and recommends improvements in processes and procedures.
  • Coordinates activities with other managers within the department.
  • Coordinates, manages and plans special projects, functions, tasks, special activities, etc.
  • Prepares, coordinates, distributes and communicates organizational information, correspondence, activities, etc.
  • Resolves complex problems.
  • Requirements :

  • Bachelor's or master’s in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-8 years progressive administrative and / or office experience, preferably working for high level management.
  • Prior supervisory experience strongly desired.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivation and self-direction.
  • Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities.
  • Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knows how to use time effectively in a 24-hour news environment.
  • Works collaboratively within a cross-functional environment.
  • Must embrace peer-to-peer feedback and training.
  • Strong command of AP grammar, spelling and style.
  • Is comfortable using social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
  • News often requires employees to work extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays, sometimes unexpectedly.
