Job Overview :

Macy’s Technology is seeking a motivated Software Engineering Manager to drive the development of Algo-Retail technology and system solutions to address business needs while managing all resources.

The manager is expected to lead efforts to build next generation of cloud native platforms and lead innovation in areas of technology such as AI and Machine Learning.

In addition, clear appreciation of future technology trends and proven track record of innovation in areas of predictive analytics, big data and machine learning.

The manager will be in charge of building and maintaining world class applications and services and keep them stable, scalable and available.

The manager will be responsible to deliver in a lean and fast manner, tirelessly looking for improvements, and setting new challenges to energize the team.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions :

  • Deliver results by driving strategic and operational direction through effective planning, organizing, prioritizing staff assignments, and continual analysis of workload and personnel needs, including the success of multiple concurrent cross-functional tasks
  • Drive and manage change, set priorities based on thorough understanding of business initiatives; monitors progress of assignments, redistributing resources where appropriate
  • Ability to build and establish solid working relationships by providing timely, accurate and high quality information to peers, subordinates, upper management and / or customers
  • Advise Macys Tech senior management on strategic plans and improvements to systems and processes, including partner with customers to develop and execute business vision and strategic plan
  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to identify, recommend, and implement improvements to systems and processes
  • Effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; employs, trains, directs, and counsels unit staff
  • Develop, motivate, empower, and evaluate team to expand professional, management, leadership, and technical skills, including ensuring continued success of the team members within their functional work area
  • Ensure compliance with Architectural & Platform standards
  • Support budgetary direction provided by VP / Sr Senior Manager, e.g responsible for managing a budget
  • Manage resource allocations, planning resource needs & on-boarding new resources to effectively staff the delivery team and accomplish business goals
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality
  • Qualifications : Education / Experience :

    Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree preferred and 8-10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ years of experience designing and developing web and enterprise applications using Java / J2EE technologies.
  • 5 + years of technical leadership experience in related field and managerial experience of other leaders.
  • 3+ years of experience with web services (Microservices, REST or SOAP) and messaging applications (with JAXB and JMS).
  • 3+ years of experience leading the team in Agile environment.
  • 1- 2 years of experience working with advanced algorithms, big data and machine learning platforms & systems.
  • Experience with highly scalable, high performance, 100% stable Java applications.
  • Communication Skills :

  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information of the platform in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders.
  • Must have excellent presentation skills to wide spectrum of audience types (Sr. Executives to Technical Architects and Developers).
  • Mathematical Skills :

  • Strong technical aptitude, along with analytical skills.
  • Reasoning Ability :

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical Demands :

  • This position involves regular ambulating, sitting, hearing, and talking.
  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Involve use of hands and fingers for typing on keyboard and using a mouse.
  • May be a need to move or lift items under 10 pounds.
  • Other Skills :

  • Strong leadership profile and excellent prioritization and negotiation skills, capable of managing multiple streams of work in parallel with aggressive timelines
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities, and have solid track record of leading engineering team and delivering enterprise class products
  • Ability to define technical objectives & achieve planned results by decisions and actions that are based on professional methods, best practices and practical experience.
  • Broad and deep technical understanding of the algo-retail technologies in this field.
  • Work Hours :

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
