PRIMARY FUNCTION :

The VP for Investments will represent the Investment Office for Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) and will report directly and work with the Chief Investment Officer and in managing the University’s $4.

0 B investment portfolio, $3.0B DC program and $2B debt portfolio. This role requires the ability to analyze and synthesize data, exercise independent judgment, build relationships, and create high quality deliverables.

The position will also serve as a part of a larger team encompassing the Treasury and Capital Management teams, in providing support as needed.

They will work on a total portfolio level and sub-portfolio level to report on performance, exposure measurement, performance attribution, liquidity monitoring, and statistical risk measurement.

They will provide oversight of the portfolio under CIO guidance to manage all operational responsibilities and develop best practices related to all operational functions.

They will also work with the CIO in overseeing the construction, issuance and monitoring of the University tax-exempt and taxable debt portfolio

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Analyzes portfolio performance, risk factors & exposures, and cash flow projections
  • Participate in the implementation of new investment strategies
  • Conducts a project to evaluate available and appropriate off-the-shelf risk management systems, followed by implementation of the selected system and integration into the Investment Office processes
  • Establish debt compliance function
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES :

  • Support the CIO oversight of the portfolio and management of the Investment Office’s operations
  • Oversee portfolio reporting, including analytics, exposures, performance and attribution
  • Manage external vendor relationships (custody, brokerage, risk system, IT etc.)
  • Manage execution of investments, including trading, rebalancing, etc.
  • Support annual audit process and valuation of the portfolio
  • Work closely with our Finance colleagues within TJU
  • Continue refinement of investment documentation and knowledge management process
  • Work closely with consultants to coordinate and ensure accuracy of reporting
  • Lead the operational due diligence process for existing and prospective managers
  • Qualifications

    EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS :

    Bachelor’s Degree. Masters degree preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION :

    Preferred Licenses / certificates / registrations : CFA or CPA

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Required Experience : Ten (10) years of experience in an investment or finance function; previous experience with trading, compliance and managing counterparty relationships;
  • previous exposure to traditional and alternative investment strategies

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

    Preferred Experience : Experience at a $1 billion plus Endowment, Foundation, or Family Office; experience leading the reporting, operations or middle office function at an asset management firm; community engagement
