Position Information Job Code / BCAT FWS - SA III Pay Scale $9.00 - $11.00 Nature of Work

America Reads / America Counts (ARAC) is a partnership between Student Employment and surrounding school districts in four counties.

ARAC has been a part of UWG’s Federal Work-Study program since the 1997-1998 academic year.

All positions are during school hours, approximately 7 : 30 am to 3 : 30 pm, Monday through Friday. You must be able to work during these times, preferably 12 to 20 hours per week.

In the elementary school positions, UWG student employees will assist kindergarten through fifth grade who need extra help with their math and / or reading skills.

You will work in the classroom with the teacher. Our elementary school partners are :

Carroll County Carrollton City Elementary, Ithica Elementary, Sharp Creek Elementary, and Whitesburg Elementary

Coweta County Ruth Hill Elemtary

Douglas County TBD

In the middle to high school positions, you will tutor students up to 9th grade who need additional help on math skills only.

You will help students one-on-one or in small groups, outside the classroom, usually in the library. Our America Counts partners in middle and high school are :

Carroll County Central High School

Coweta County Newnan High School

Haralson County Bremen Middle School & After School Program (this is the only position that can work till 6 pm and includes an after school program)

Required Qualifications

  • Currently have and maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Have reliable transportation to get to the the job
  • Availability to work during 7 : 30 am to 3 : 30 pm, Monday through Friday for a total of 10 to 20 hours per week (2-3 consistent days per week).
  • Pass a background check
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS).

    Position Status Temporary - Part-Time Position Notes

    Student Assistant III positions include exceptional student duties of a complex nature, requiring extensive prior knowledge, skill, or training.

    Student Assistant III positions may include strenuous and constant physical activity. Students in these positions take on a heavy workload, perform work with little or no supervision, and often have supervisory responsibilities over other students.

    This position does require the candidate to have Federal Work Study.

    Required Qualifications

    Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-

    point average unless otherwise noted / indicated by the hiring department.
