This innovative position will join a dynamic team dedicated to attracting and recruiting highly skilled personnel committed to serving the public in a professionally driven work environment.

The Recruiter and Outreach Officer recruits the best candidates and oversees the onboarding process of new hires, conducts public outreach to aid in recruiting and public education, represents EMS at various public functions, and coordinates special events coverage approved by operations, and conducts administrative functions involved in public outreach and coordination of special projects.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE : $25.28 - $34.39


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Duties include : Create, coordinate and administer recruitment strategies; participate in external job fairs and EMS related professional conferences;
  • work with local high schools and colleges in attending career fairs so students are aware of job opportunities in EMS; attend community events to solicit applicants for vacant positions, monitor Facebook chat and other social media sites in order to drive potential applicants to our website and online application;
  • research other methods of advertising for vacant positions; work with local high schools and colleges in developing EMS curriculum and how to meet minimum job requirements;
  • assists in developing informational brochures about the Department and the EMS positions; work with operations and training to coordinate onboarding process for new hires;
  • create and oversee public outreach programs for the community; works with the County PIO on messaging and marketing EMS to the public;
  • participates as a paramedic in large events or field operations as needed; maintains competency in paramedic skills to the standards set forth at Charleston County EMS.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Position requires a South Carolina Paramedic or Nationally Registered Paramedic Certificate with the ability to obtain reciprocity prior to hire;
  • Basic Life Support (AHA or ASHI); ACLS (AHA or ASHI); within 90 days of hire obtain ITLS or PHTLS or CTCC; within 90 days of hire obtain PALS or PEPP;
  • within 90 days of hire complete ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 701, 702, 706, 800. HR or recruitment experience preferred, preferably in the Emergency Medical Services or first responder field preferred but not mandatory.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    This position requires good public speaking skills. This position will interact with the public to include outreach programs must be able to communicate well both in written form and verbally.
