This is a temporary, part-time position with no benefits to assist the Archives’ Media Collections Manager in inventorying and digitizing rare audio recordings of bluegrass and old-time music festival performances.

Hours for this grant-funded position may not exceed 25 hours per week and 640 hours in total.

Extensive knowledge of traditional music, especially bluegrass and old-time, is essential as the work will focus on identifying performers, song titles, and instrumentation for recordings.

Job duties include editing and describing individual performances, assisting in the digitization of analog recordings, assisting with relevant exhibits (both on campus and online), and performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office / 365 applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn new software relevant to job duties
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimum direct supervision
  • Ability to perform as an effective, positive team member
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of the bachelor’s degree
  • Extensive knowledge of bluegrass and old-time music, as evidenced by relevant work in the field of music or documented undergraduate coursework
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience digitizing analog audio and working with audio-specific software programs (Samplitude, Audition, Audacity, etc)
  • Salary $12.50 / hour
