Position Summary Information Job Description

The School of Physical Therapy (SOPT) at Marshall University invites applications for a 12-month*, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of an assistant professor or a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The candidate will have the ability to teach in two or more of the following areas : biomechanics, kinesiology, motor control, gross anatomy, or human physiology.

Additional teaching opportunities may exist in selected clinical areas based on education, experience, or specialty certification.

The faculty member will participate in both independent and team teaching. Responsibilities include teaching and advising DPT students, active engagement in scholarship, and participation on relevant school, college and university committees.

Release time is available for clinical practice in the community or professional consultation for candidates who do not have a physical therapy degree.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Terminal academic degree (PhD / EdD / DSc) or equivalent academic doctoral degree in an area of teaching emphasis. Candidates with and without a physical therapy degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Doctoral candidates who are ABD and will graduate by June 2020 may apply.

  • Ability to mentor student capstone research projects and provide mentorship in research design and data analysis.
  • Ability and interest to engage in a team-teaching environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Physical Therapy degree
  • Prior higher education teaching experience
  • Clear evidence of scholarship demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and / or grant funding
  • Current physical therapy license or eligibility to obtain a PT license in any United States jurisdiction within two (2) years of the appointment.
  • ABPTS board certification
