Job Summary :
Director of Engineering responsible for all systems, safety, and software development activities related to the train control product line.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities :
Plans and formulates engineering activities and organizes the engineering team consisting of systems, safety, and software groups.
Works with group managers to assign engineering personnel to specific phases or aspects of engineering matters, such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans in accordance with the engineering disciplines of teams.
Reviews system design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements. Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.
Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications and drawing releases. Controls expenditures within limitation of the engineering budget.
Directs and prepares interim and completion reports.
Collaborates with product line management and
program management to establish project and task priorities based upon customer
needs, company objectives, and available resources.
Provides leadership and direction regarding the
organization’s established policies. Works through managers and assistant
managers to maintain and improve safe and efficient operations. Plans
activities to ensure adherence to budget and operation objectives. Participates
in development of long-range goals and objectives.
This individual is fully accountable for the
results achieved through the activities of the train control engineering team
and of the organizational policies.

Requirements / Qualifications :
Must have broad comprehensive knowledge of structured engineering development processes with preference for experience in development of safety critical applications.
Must be able to direct and coordinate engineering activities effectively to maintain company project schedules and budgets.
Must have proven teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act in a mentor role, and act as an advocate for positive change.
Must have the ability to create and follow standard processes and clearly document results. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business administration with 10 years’ experience of engineering managerial responsibility.
