DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION Societe Generale’s (SG) Corporate and Investment Banking Group (CORI) is looking to expand the number of bankers covering the Diversified Industrial industry from it’s Chicago Office.

The CORI Chicago group is responsible for marketing the full range of products to Fortune 500 companies in three sectors (Healthcare, Diversified Industrials and the McDonald’s System).

The desire is to add a Vice President level banker who has managed a portfolio in the general industrial sector and has existing company contacts to better accelerate the bank’s penetration.

This individual will be part of a team, work with a Managing Director, and other team members (Associate, Analysts and others) to source new business opportunities.

This individual will work on an existing portfolio with the main responsibility being to expand scope and penetration by adding new business to existing clients and converting prospects to clients.

Target companies include companies in the Diversified Industrial industry, mostly investment grade, have a high percentage of business in Europe and / or internationally, are doing business within the various 25 product areas Societe Generale offers and can achieve targeted returns.

This position represents an expansion in the number of bankers at SG Chicago.


MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES This banker will be responsible for generating new business within the targeted prospect / client industrial market, will require good knowledge of commercial banking and investment banking products and solutions.

He / she will need to develop a good understanding of Societe Generale’s product areas, strengths, be able to originate business with prospects, and cross sell to existing clients.

The appropriate candidate will bring creativity to the task of pairing client needs with human and product resources of SG.

The individual will be entrepreneurial, assertive, confident, self-directed, and mature, while also being a good fit with existing team members.

As such, he / she will have the ability to gain the respect needed to interface effectively with all related product partners and team members.

Furthermore, the individual’s presentation, communication skills, intellect and sales management style will be of key importance in the selection process for this hire.

The appropriate candidate will possess :

  • The commercial aptitude to support origination and cross selling efforts,
  • Existing experience in the Diversified Industrial industry and existing quality contacts,
  • The capacity to establish or develop client relationships. The ability to assess client needs, opportunities, problems, requirements and work with both team members and products partners to produce creative solutions, especially in a capital efficient manner
  • The product and technical expertise necessary to gain the trust and confidence of clients, product specialists, team members, and senior management
  • A willingness to cross-fertilize with the different business lines and divisions of the Bank to identify cross sell opportunities worldwide, and solve client needs with solutions from the SG product areas
  • The capacity to leverage the tremendous and focused global resources of the Bank
  • The ability to develop and implement any changes in terms of strategy, current and prospective client lists and client service methodology required to improve performance and revenues
  • The ability to make a first level credit assessment of counterparty risks involved and pertinence of requests by the different business lines and divisions of the Bank

  • Team player mentality with an ability to originate business with clients / prospects, who is able to generate ideas and work with internal business lines and has an ability to source acceptable commercial and investment banking business

  • Wide knowledge of product set both across investment banking and commercial banking
  • Either strong credit skills or successful management of a corporate client portfolio in the United States, preferably in the investment grade Healthcare sector
  • Commercial skills and / or aptitudes Desired :
  • Experience in a US subsidiary of a foreign bank would be a plus PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE Required :
  • 7+ plus years of experience in a Bank and Broker / Dealer community EDUCATION Required :
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher education level of experience from a major business university Desired :
  • Post graduate education or experience (i.e. MBA,CFA)
  • Series 7 / 79 and 63 preferred LANGUAGES Required :
