Role Purpose :

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for provision ofpatient care activities and related non-clinical activities necessary for careof patients and maintenance of nursing units.

These duties are performed underthe direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician. Duties would include, but notbe limited to, personal care and fingersticks.

Responsibilities :

  • Vital signs and fingersticks : Takes vital signs and does fingersticks according to Physician's orders and patient status.
  • Reports out of parameter readings.

  • Skin : observes for skin irritation and breakdown and reports.
  • Mental status : notes changes in alertness, orientation and mood and reports.
  • Physical ability : identifies changes in strength and Coordination and reports.
  • Prioritization : answers call lights immediately. Reports patient's needs without delay. Performs tasks in a timely manner.
  • Personal hygiene : assist or provides for bathing, oral care, linen changes, shaving and hair care.
  • Activities : follows directions for patient activities including turning, chair and ambulation.
  • Diet : passes trays and snacks in a timely manner. Feeds or assists patient as needed.
  • Accurately and legibly record all vital signs, personal care, activities, fingersticks, diet, snacks and I&O.
  • Neatness : provides for orderly patient areas.
  • MinimumQualifications :

  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Current Missouri CNA certificate, Missouri EMTlicense, or Fundamental of Nursing course completed. BLS required within 3months of hire.
  • CPI certification required within 3 months of hire.

  • Ability to lift and ambulate patient.
  • Willingness and ability to complete patient caretech course and orientation. Ability and willing to rotate shifts and adjust toschedule changes.
  • Ability to work under emotional and physical stress. Highlevel of interpersonal / communication skills in order to relate effectively tophysicians, health center staff, clients, patients and their families.

    PreferredQualifications :

  • Previous experience in direct patient carepreferred or relevant education; background in medical field which can beapplied.
  • Physical Requirements :

    Employeesin this position are, or can be, required to possess the following physicalcapabilities :

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling up to101 lbs.
  • Stooping, kneeling and / or crouching daily.
  • Standing or walking more than 9 hours a day
  • Running to respond to patient emergencies
  • Reaching, grasping, fingering, and / or feelingmore than 6 hours a day
  • Visual acuity in order to correctly distinguishskin tone variations, evidence of IV infiltration, infection; able to readtelemetry, blood pressure gauges, etc.
  • Audio acuity in order to correctly distinguishvarious body sounds (i.e., respirations, heart tones, bowel sounds).
  • Audio acuity to discern sounds made by varioustypes of machinery or equipment that would indicate dangerous or improperoperation.
