Ensures effective communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals and CHI Health staff. A highly skilled qualified professional who manages the interpreting session to optimize the accurate exchange of information whether providing language assistance in-

person or by telephone or video. Produces high quality document translation in accordance with organizational standards

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • In accordance with NCIHC Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, interprets from English to the target language and vice versa.
  • Translates a variety of documents from English to the target language. Occasionally, completes a sight translation or translates a document from the target language to English.
  • Steps in to coordinate when needed.
  • Delivers on a service model goal to provide language assistance services that incorporates efficiency, value and experience.
  • Identifies gaps in communication services and partners with organizational colleagues to find solutions that ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and credentialing bodies.
  • Understands and educates to cultural attitudes and customs of LEP individuals and United States healthcare organizations.
  • Keeps accurate records of interpretations and translations per department protocols.
  • Serves as a resource for staff on all language assistance matters, including but not limited to, EPIC functionality, telephonic and video interpreting equipment, role of the interpreter and the translation request process.
  • Responsible for maintaining self up-to-date on organizational and departmental developments by actively participating in meetings, rounding's, safety huddles.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Pass oral and / or written language proficiency exam

    Highly skilled in all Microsoft office products

    Ability to work in a variety of healthcare settings

    Can set priorities in demanding situations, communicate priorities and assist with problem solving to achieve results

    Successful completion of : Medical Terminology Class within 6 months of hire

    40 hour introductory interpreting class within 1 year of hire

    CCHI or NBCMI National Certification (if available for language) within 3 years of hire

    PREFERRED Qualifications

    Prior medical interpreting and / or translating experience

    Prior call center experience Prior customer service experience

    Prior experience with an electronic health record

    Bachelor’s degree in languages, interpretation / translation or healthcare related field
