DescriptionThe RACU / General Medicine is an eighteen-bed unit designed for the care of patients requiring focused pulmonary care and the care of patients with general medical diagnoses.

Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists the multi-disciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.

PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs. Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner.

PCAs will float between two units, Bigelow 9 General Medicine and Bigelow 13 RACU.

Shifts : 36hr D / N (12 hours only) every other weekend


  • Current CNA certificate for Massachusetts and previous experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • HS diploma or equivalent.
  • Effective customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using a combination of strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport patients, using the appropriate physical technique, in a safe manner for the patient and self.
