The City and Regional Planning Department seeks tenure-track assistant professor candidates with a record of scholarship and teaching (either demonstrated or with the potential for success) in planning or urban design.
Candidates shall demonstrate the ability to lead community-based comprehensive planning or urban design studios, especially in diverse communities.
Candidates shall demonstrate a secondary area of ability in either housing, hazard mitigation, economic development, or active transportation.
Teaching includes laboratory (studio) and lecture format courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Learn-by-doing and project-based learning is the preferred teaching model.
Studios often require working with real community clients such as cities, counties, or community-based organizations. Candidates shall demonstrate the ability to develop a viable applied research program that complements their teaching, and a commitment to participate in departmental and professional service activities.

At least one academic degree in planning, landscape architecture, urban design, or architecture. A Ph.D. or professional doctorate is required.
ABD candidates may be considered. The candidate must possess professional experience in the field of planning or urban design.

Candidates shall demonstrate an ability to develop a viable applied research program that complements the instructional area of specialization and a commitment to participate in departmental and professional service activities.
The candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, conduct themselves professionally, perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university level and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in urban planning and teaching and experience in specific areas of program need.
