The College is committed to environmental sustainability and looks to all employees to support this important goal.PositionUnder the general supervision of the Division Dean, the Accounting instructor's responsibilities include teaching lower division accounting courses, overseeing course curriculum, mentoring part-time accounting instructors and students, conducting course and program reviews, and co- managing the accounting lab. The instructor may teach financial accounting, managerial accounting, and other business related courses, some of which may be in on-line format. The instructor may be expected to work in a classroom incorporating computer activities, as well as one with a traditional instructional format. Participation as a full-time faculty member in department, division, and campus-wide activities, including committees is required. The instructor may be required to have his/her teaching assignment in the evening and/or weekend and teach courses at the Fremont and/or Newark campuses, and/or an off-campus location.Desirable Qualifications1. Teaching experience at post-secondary level, preferably at a community college.2. CPA licensure (preferably from a large national accounting firm) and private industry experience3. Experience in using innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.4. Experience in the use of computer technology as a teaching tool, including experience with course management systems (i.e. Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).5. Experience in working with culturally diverse student populations (teaching or other situations in a leadership role).6. Experience in developing programs that foster interest in or advancement of careers in business or continued pursuit of a business degree from a four-year college.7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.8. Ability to work successfully in a team environment.9. Business degree (Master's or Bachelor's) should be from an AACSB-accredited institutionDuties and Responsibilities1. Teach assigned courses (both face to face and on-line) in the Accounting department, and employ learner-centered instructional methods that emphasize group cooperation and collaboration and that reflect cultural sensitivity and interdisciplinary approaches to subject matter.2. Teach Accounting in accordance with post-secondary level established course outlines.3. Participate in committees and in the leadership of activities promoting business administration and student success toward a career in business.4. Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and student learning outcomes and provide feedback to students in a timely manner.5. Assist students with their assignments by holding required office hours and attend department/division meetings.6. Develop and implement a variety of effective teaching and assessment methods, including the use of computers and information technology to engage student interest and support for a variety of learning styles.7. Develop effective online course materials, and build online learning communities that meet accessible online course requirements and Title 5 §55211 Effective Contact Policy requirements 8. Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (i.e., grades, syllabi, attendance reports).9. Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of curriculum as well as assess student learning outcomes at the course and program levels.10. Continue in related professional career development throughout employment and remain current in the field through course work, conferences, workshops and other appropriate means. 11. Carry out collegial responsibilities including, but not limited to, institutional committee assignments, student recruitment and retention, full and part-time faculty recruitment and hiring, and participation in shared governance committees and campus life activities.12. Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues (within discipline and college-wide) on matters regarding course offerings, programs, and activities that would enhance the development of the department and college.13. Perform duties described in Board policy, the Faculty Handbook, the UFO (faculty bargaining unit) Contract, and as assigned at the Fremont and Newark campuses, and/or other designated locations.14. Engage in activities that enhance the department's rapport with area high schools, industry and business partners, and/or four-year institutions.15. Promote business associate degree for transfer and provide awareness of business career opportunities, through faculty or classroom advisory activities, and collaboration on business major and career related events.16. Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentrationORBachelor's in business with accounting emphasis or business administration, with accounting emphasis or economics with an accounting emphasis AND Master's in business, business administration, business education, economics, taxation, or financeORthe equivalent.
